The Defender Mission Statement

As the editorial staff of The Defender, the student-run newspaper of St. Michael's College, we strive to accurately, professionally and ethically report the news affecting the lives of students and the community.

The Defender is a designated public forum. Student editors make all content decisions. We believe in thef reedom of expression. We encourage our readers to express their views at any time.

The Defender publishes letters to the editorin response to articles that we have printed in the paperand issues on campus. The Defender does not publish anonymous letters. Letters will be edited only for grammar, spelling, good taste, and sometimes length.

Who are we?

The Defender publishes letters to the editor in response to articles that we have printed in the paperand issues on campus. The Defender does not publish anonymous letters. Letters will be edited only for grammar, spelling, good taste, and sometimes length.

The Defender is the official weekly paper of St. Michael's College in Colchester, Vt. It contains 16 to 20 pages of news, sports, features and columns about St. Michael's students and the surrounding community.

St. Michael's College is home to 1,900 undergraduate, 401 graduate students and 144 faculty members. The college was founded in 1904 and recently celebrated its centennial.

Who reads The Defender?

The Defender, reaches nearly 100 percent of the students and faculty on campus, in addition to families, friends and supporters of the college. The St. Michael's community reaches for The Defender each week to learn about events on campus and in the greater Burlington area.

Circulation: 1,500. Ten issues spring semester 2007.
