The Purple Haze was a popular way for students to travel

Hundreds of students ride the campus shuttle
every day, but few are aware of the colorful 1970s predecessor of the current white bus. Students once rode, and drove, the shuttle between North Campus and Main Campus in style aboard a purple “paddy wagon” known as the Purple Haze.
