The universal language is music
Students at St. Michael's enjoy mix of Japanese and American music

Japanese people respect the notion of silence and tradition, but have adopted the musical tastes of Americans and Europeans while making their own genres.  The ancient instruments of Gagaku are still being used in traditional settings, but now popular Japanese musicians are using the soft instruments like the Koto and Shakuhachi to rock out to more upbeat music.  On March 29 the Ross Sports Center will hold a Japanese Cultural Festival that will feature the Burlington Japanese Taiko drumming group.
