A New Beginning: Bon Iver |
My good friend recently introduced me to Bon Iver. I have been obsessed ever since. His album For Emma, Forever Ago embodies how the end breathes the beginning--something I believe we all can be reminded of. |
| Who? Indie folk singer-songwriter Justin Vernon. The name, Bon Iver, is a bastardization of the French, bon hiver (good winter). He independently released his debut album, For Emma, Forever Ago in 2007, the majority of which was recorded while spending four months in a remote cabin in Wisconsin. He previously was a member of DeYarmond Edison, an indie-rock band from Wisconsin, where Vernon still resides. |

"In For Emma, Forever Ago, Bon Iver's Justin Vernon sings in a heartbreaking falsetto. Vernon wrote the album's songs while living in a remote cabin one winter in northwestern Wisconsin, where he'd gone to exorcise some inner demons. For Emma, Forever Ago perfectly captures the isolation and chilly heartache of the period in which it's recorded. Hear a concert recorded live at the Parish in Austin, Tex., on March 13, 2008."
