- According to a letter from Director of Safety and Security, Pete Soons, on May 2, at 3:30 p.m. a female St. Michael's College graduate student was accosted by a male as she entered her vehicle in the parking area adjacent to the McCarthy Arts Center. She resisted and a passerby intervened, and the suspect fled. A subsequent search of the area was initially unsuccessful, but the suspect was located in Burlington about 90 minutes later and taken into custody by police. The 19-year-old suspect was arraigned this morning and remains in the custody of Howard Center for Human Services as he is a mental health patient. Police believe this was an isolated incident.
- On Friday, April 21 one of the Roman Catholic Church's most distinguished cardinals has publicly backed the use of condoms for married couples to prevent Aids transmission. As of April 26the Vatican is preparing to publish a statement on the use of condoms by people who have Aids, a senior Roman Catholic official has said. (BBC)
- A US jury has decided that Al-Qaeda plotter Zacarias Moussaoui is to face life in jail, rather than execution, for his role in the 9/11 attacks. Defence lawyers successfully argued he should face life in prison, rather than martyrdom through execution. (BBC)
